Personal bests in World Masters

FIVE Sudbury swimmers competed in the 14th Fina World Master Championships in Riccione, Italy, with several chalking up personal bests.

There were more than 2,400 entrants in the open water events with many of those swimmers also competing in the pool.

Sudbury Masters’ Stuart McLellan started the championships off with 24th place in the 800 metre freestyle, followed by 400m individual medley (19th) and 200m individual medley (18th) swimming into an East Record for the latter. He finished his busy week with the open water in which he finished 21st.

Gordon Coutts swam 400m freestyle (63rd) and the open water (54th) and achieving two personal best times in a very hard age group with 176 swimmers for the open water.

Terry Mansi started his championships off with the 400m freestyle (38th) and swam the open water event (35th), also achieving two personal best times.

Sandra Mansi competed in the open water (27th) with a personal best time.

Sharon McLellan swam 400m freestyle (36th) and the open water (30th) with a season’s best time in the 400m and a personal best for the open water.
