Nick Dougherty set to feature at Stoke-by-Nayland for English Challenge

THREE-TIME European Tour winner Nick Dougherty is among the field of entrants for the English Challenge event to be held at Stoke-by-Nayland a week today, writes

The Liverpudlian, who finished seventh at the US Open in 2007, heads up the list of around 160 golfers set to play in the Challenge Tour event, the feeder tour for the PGA European Tour, which includes Europe’s most promising young players.

While home professional Jamie Moul, on his debut season on the European Tour who has missed out on qualifying for the Open this week, is not eligible to play in the English Challenge, Southend’s Matthew Southgate and fellow Englishmen Matthew Nixon are set to feature. Madrid Masters 2009 champion Ross McGowan is also in the field which will compete for a 160,000 euro prize pot in the four-day event, the only Challenge Tour event to be held in the country.

This is the third year the free for spectators prestigious championship will be held on the Gainsborough Course at Stoke-by-Nayland and the family-owned complex will be again offering free golf clinics during the tournament.

These will be open to all abilities and ages with people able to just turn up on the day and join in on the following times with golf clubs provided: Thursday, July 26: 10am and 2pm; Friday, July 27: 10am and 2pm; Saturday, July 28: 11.30am and 2pm; Sunday, July 29: 11.30am.

The professionals at Stoke-by-Nayland will also be staging Junior Golf Summer Camps over the holidays — call the Pro Shop for details on 01206 265812.

There is also hospitality packages available for the English Challenge from £65+ VAT for a full day and there are also some limited pro-am team places available where players can play a round with one of the top European Challenge Tour professionals and enjoy a four-course Gala Dinner afterwards with entertainment.
