London 2012: Injured Goldie Sayers out of women’s javelin competition

GOLDIE Sayers battled bravely against injury, but fell well short in her quest to qualify for the women’s javelin final at the Olympic Games.

The Newmarket-born thrower — who holds the British record and finished fourth in Beijing four years ago — was clearly in a lot of pain from the elbow injury suffered at the British Grand Prix and she failed with all three of her attempts.

Mildenhall Cycling Club gold member Victoria Pendleton goes for a medal in the women’s cycling sprint later today.
