In form Daw rides to victory

CYCLE Club Sudbury’s Simon Daw has been in fine form this year, riding time trials and also competing in grass track racing.

This weekend saw Daw, James Rush and Jonathan Weatherly all in action at the Plomesgate 25-mile time trial.

Daw’s rich vein of form continued as he finished sixth overall in one hour one minute 34 seconds, which also placed him third in the vets class, back in the prizes again.

Daw’s winnings this season now total over £80, but it is probably too early to consider giving up his day job.

Unfortunately both Rush and Weatherly suffered punctures, though the latter struggled on, completing over two miles on a flat tyre for a time of one hour five minutes.

The club’s Thursday night time trial was one for the toughest, for those not frightened off by heavy showers and black skies.

Once again Rush won, in a cracking time of 19 minutes 38 seconds, followed by Darren Pratt in 21:11, an improvement of 1:47 from his previous ride, and third was George Hoppitt in 21:55.

Tom Moore and Trevor Pillett had much improved rides, the latter with 22:47, 1:27 quicker, and the former 27:36, almost 2:30 quicker.

This week the weather surely must improve and tonight’s time trial is on the Hitcham Hilly course starting at 7.30pm.
