More than 100 of the region’s top golf talent battled it out on the Suffolk and Essex border on Tuesday for the Stoke-by-Nayland Junior Open.

The host club enjoyed a successful day across the 36-hole competition, with trio Sam O’Brienm Tom Hatton and Alex English (471 gross) lifting the team award.

O’Brien was also second in the boys’ competition after carding 149 gross, with Ufford Park’s Josh Roberts three shots better off to be crowned boys’ champion in the Devora Suite.

The girls’ event was won by West Essex’s Ashleigh Greenham (150 gross), who also wowed onlookers with her hole-in-one on the Gainsborough Course’s third hole.

Stockbrrok Manor’s Ashley Lara Croft was runner-up with 156, while the
other team event went to Burstead for their best net score of 443.

Stoke-by-Nayland Golf Club secretary, Adrian Bullock, said: “There was an excellent standard of golf played and enjoyed by all.”

The entry list was down on previous years, he said, with the date for 2015’s competition having been set as Tuesday, March 31.

This year’s event was sponsored by Cobra Puma Golf, who helped provide a prize table, including golf clothing to the value of £2,500.

Seventy per cent of the field in this year’s event were in single figure handicaps.
