THE sun shone for the Halstead Fun Run on Sunday as 126 runners tackled the senior course.

The hilly five-mile circuit suited Sudbury residents Paul Preston and Marie Shirley, both running for Colchester Harriers AC.

Preston won the race in a time of 29 minutes 45 seconds, his first race win in more than 25 years, while Shirley eased to first woman in 32.18, as both build up towards the Berlin Marathon in September.

The race was part of a family fun day organised by the town council and based at Halstead Leisure Centre and Ramsey College.

It was expertly directed by Halstead Road Runner Nathan Roulson.

Second place went to Simon Harrison of Harwich Runners and third to Halstead Road Runner Phil Davies in 30.42.
