Fans love AFC Sudbury's new £2.1 million home
FANS have given AFC Sudbury's new £2.1m facilities a big thumbs up after their first glimpse inside.
Although the eagerly-anticipated clubhouse and community pavilion development at King's Marsh Stadium will not be ready to hand over until May, more than 100 supporters were given a tour before Saturday's home game with Atherstone Town.
AFC's supporters' club chairman John Crosbie received positive feedback about the new facilities, which are 90 per cent complete.
"Everyone was very impressed with what they saw and I didn't hear anything negative," said Crosbie.
"They were impressed with the design, in particular the way the main clubhouse was raised off the ground so you can see over people's heads (who are standing pitchside).
"There is a great viewing ability with the glass front. They were also impressed with the Grassroots community area,"
Supporters were given a chance to see inside the main clubhouse, where the two main dressing rooms and gym area are situated, and the Grassroots community pavilion, which includes four dressing rooms and a
multi-purpose classroom.
The facilities are expected to be ready to hand over in the middle of May, with the finishing touches being completed by the beginning of June.
l AFC Sudbury face their third home game in six days tonight (Thursday) when they entertain Rothwell Town at King's Marsh Stadium, 7.45pm.
They will be hoping to gain revenge over a Rothwell side who beat them 1-0 in the opening game of the season.
Sudbury's gruelling schedule of Zamaretto League Division One Midlands games started with a 1-1
draw against Atherstone Town last Saturday, when debutant Ben
Barnsley, signed from Braintree, came off the bench to grab an
equaliser.
AFC also gave a first game to defender Shane Barnes, who has signed from Cornard United.
On Tuesday Sudbury drew 2-2 with Soham Town Rangers, after twice letting a one-goal advantage slip from their grasp. Sam Clarke and Danny Brown got the AFC goals.
Sudbury's relentless schedule continues on Saturday with an away game with Burnham, 3pm, and they are back at King's Marsh Stadium again on Tuesday to play Bedworth United, 7.45pm.
