Davies beats elements for season best time

CYCLE Club Sudbury’s Rob Davies beat the weather and recorded the club’s best time at the E2/25 course near Newmarket.

Open time trialling has often fell victim to the rainy conditions this summer, with many events cancelled and riders spending more time checking the forecast than training.

The weekend was no exception, on the E2/25 course near Newmarket, with many riders staying away due to poor weather conditions.

The event was run even though the rain did not hold off completely and it turned out to be a quick day with light winds.

Davies took advantage of this, clocking 54 minutes 21 seconds for the 25 miles, a season best time for a CC Sudbury rider.

Davies averaged approximately 28mph, completing both sections of the ride in similar splits.

Simon Daw recorded a thid place and fourth in the Devil and national endurance series 8km at Biggleswade, again in slippery wet conditions.

The club’s Thursday evening TT was fiercely contested with Matt Shotbolt and Daw recording identical times of 19.16 on the Acton circuit. Jonathan Weatherley was third in 19.51, making him best improver with 123pts tied with Brian Mann who recorded 22.12.

Rob Harman and Jody Downs had strong rides in 20.42 and 22.51 respectively. Next week’s event is on the Hitcham hilly course starting at 7.30pm.
