Compasses point the way to success as Foster produces season’s best
EDWARDSTONE White Horse and Brewery Tap both fell to Stansfield Compasses in the Industrial Electrical Services Sudbury and District League.
The White Horse were helpless in their rearranged fixture and went down 6-1.
Brewery Tap found themselves 3-0 down the following night, but made a mini revival with Pete Lillie amassing 3210, and Del Atton beating Simon Iron 2150-1450.
Stansfield’s Rob Foster produced the highlight of the evening, scoring a 2340 break in a total of 3730, the highest score of the season.
Hadleigh Eight Bells travelled to the Mauldons Adders with only three players and faced an almost impossible task against the in-form hosts.
Dennis Watts beat Melvin Tilbury 1470-1110, with almost half his score obtained in one break.
Bells managed a consolation win when Graham Rolfe just got the better of Callum Austin, but Chris Cass continued his good form by making it 6-1.
The Bay Horse’s game against visitors Edwardstone Wild Horses was a see-saw affair.
Doedy Munson put the hosts in front only for Alasdair Carnegie to make it all square when top scoring against Melvyn Willis. Back came the Wild Horses with Tracy Reeve beating Danny Crosbie 1390-920. The penultimate game was too prove crucial as Marge Rose and Michaela Andrews went head to head with the Wild Horses star coming out on top. Dave Howard pulled one back in the last, making the final score 4-3.
Castle Hedingham Wheatsheaf are now overcoming their illness and injury worries and were hosts to Stanningfield Red House.
New signing Jan Van Dok and Nigel Collings got the Wheatsheaf into the lead.
The arrears were reduced by Neil Thompson but Mick Harris got the better of opposing captain Lee Harman. The score was made 4-3 when Kevin Tobin reduced the deficit in the last.
The Saracen’s dominated proceedings against the Thatcher’s Arms, winning both doubles, while Mick Andrews won a low-scoring game against Trevor Parrot.
Bill Rhodes and Mark Richardson gave the visitors hope but Dick Cheshire put paid to that with a brilliant 2610-900 demolition of Tim Lesnik.
Saracen’s Ken Drake could not keep the momentum going and failed to overcome Richard Sayles in a 4-3 victory to the hosts.
