Chevalier leads honours at finals day

SUDBURY Tennis Club hosted their annual finals day for club members on Sunday.

Joe Chevalier beat Matt Perry 7-5, 6-3 to become men’s singles champion, while in the ladies’ singles there was victory for Zoe Fuller, who beat Fiona Manby 6-1, 6-3.

Chevalier’s winning streak continued in the doubles as he and partner Simon Godfrey came out on top, 2-6, 6-1, 10-8, over Perry and Richard Oldershaw in a three-set thriller.

There was a convincing win for Sarah Wordley and Louise Palmer in the ladies’ doubles as they saw off Manby and Juliet Nicholson 6-1, 6-2.

The junior games were closely contested with some real skills shown.

The girls’ final was won by Caren Takundwa, 7-5, 6-3 over Kate Baker.

Matt Read became junior boys’ champion, beating Luke Evans 6-2, 6-2.
