Bar Billiards: Doedy is the KO king...

DOEDY Munson is the Sudbury & District League singles KO champion.

The Edwardstone Wild Horses player clinched the title on finals night at Long Melford Working Men's Club.

Munson scored a comfortable victory over James Pipe (Edwardstone White Horse), who was unable to repeat his semi-final form, Munson racking up a total of 2,230 with little pressure from Pipe.

In the semi-finals, Pipe took on Dick Cheshire (Saracen's Head), who made a good start to build a lead, but then dislodged the black peg to allow his opponent back in. Munson took full advantage to win 1,390-840.

Munson was up against Graham Saunders (Long Melford Inn) and a close game took place between these experienced players. With time running out there was nothing to choose between them.

When Saunders kept one ball up he required a 200 shot to win, but his effort lacked pace. This allowed Munson to pot and run out the 1,510-1,300 victor.

The final of the doubles knock-out also saw a close game between Ian Furlonger and Mick Andrews (Saracen's Head) and Paul Leathers and Melvin Tilbury (Hadleigh Eight Bells).

The Saracen's pair held a small lead until the final stages when Tilbury's break put the Bells duo in front.

But when Leathers failed to pot the last ball Andrews stepped up and calmly dispatched it down the 200 hole to secure a 890-850 victory.
