Jon Wright of Lavenham Legion B has retained the Sudbury and District Snooker League singles title after a thrilling final-week victory over Colin Ballard of Earls Colne B.
Wright made a terrific clearance of 25 to win the opening frame of the best-of-five-frame final, before comfortably winning the second frame as he looked to be on the way to an easy win.
However, a superb 53 break early in frame three, the highest of the final, was enough for Ballard to pull one back before he also took a tactical fourth frame to level the match.
Wright grabbed control early in the deciding frame and never relinquished his advantage to claim a 3-2 success.
Tonight sees the final of the Handicap Cup competition, which will be between Lavenham Legion B and Sudbury Snooker Club A.
The latter reached their first Handicap Cup final after overcoming Earls Colne B on Tuesday.
The final will be held at Long Melford Working Men’s Club (8pm).
The league presentation evening will now take place at Sudbury Snooker Club on Thursday June 27 rather than June 20 as originally planned.
