Stoke-by-Nayland lady golfers have booked themselves a second semi-final place in Essex County Interclub competitions.
The Silver Trophy team has matched the success of the Bronze Shield team by reaching the last four.
By beating Bentley GC they went straight through to the semi-final. No quarter–final was needed as there are only four leagues in the Silver Trophy. They knew, going into the final league match, that a home win would give them the coveted place.
Last year the team reached the final of this competition, but fell at the final hurdle when they were beaten by Chigwell GC at Clacton.
This is the fourth time in six years, since joining Essex Ladies’ County Golf Association, that the team has reached the knockout stages.
It was a determined Stoke team that teed off against Bentley with Jude Hanner leading the way against Angie Jones. Hanner did not disappoint and posted the first point on the board with a 4&3 win.
Margaret Bentley, going out third, finished her match with six holes to play. Bev Thompson overwhelmed her opponent with a 9&7 victory.
The match was secure but Sue Latham and Sybil Paton made it a clean sweep.
Stoke-by-Nayland are looking forward confidently to their semi-final against Burnham GC at Crondon Park on August 2.
