Thomas Gainsborough School pupils George Parker, Joe Hurrell and Alex Ruth competed in the British Schools Karting Championship at Whilton Mill Karting Circuit near Northampton.

After battling through local and regional finals, the trio, who were East Anglia’s sole representatives, faced a stiff field of competitors from across the United Kingdom.

And after competing in two sprint races each, with their points contributing to their combined final total, the team finished 16th out of a field of 24 teams.

n Meanwhile, Hurrell, along with fellow pupil Owen Mills have secured places on the sought after Foundation Race Technician Pre-Apprenticeship course at the National College for Motorsport at Silverstone.

The course, which starts in September, directly feeds into the Formula One industry and from February onward includes placement apprenticeships with race teams including race testing abroad.
