Newton Green Golf Club’s Alice Barlow dug deep to secure a top 10 finish in the English Girls Open Amateur Championships.

With a strong field of Home Internationals sharing the lead after round one, Barlow shot the best round of her career so far with a two under first round 71 to share the lead with Scotland’s Alison Muirhead.

Barlow posted a solid second round with a three over round of 76 to make the cut for day three tied for second place at one over, before eventually finishing in an impressive tied eighth position out of a field of 113.

In the final round, Barlow was greeted by rain and wind which made conditions a little tricky but a chip in for a birdie on the first gave her a great start.

A few errant tee shots lead to a few too many bogeys, while on the 18th she lipped the hole in a 10 foot putt attempt for a birdie.

n Harvey Watts won Newton Green Golf Club’s Junior Club Championship for the first time on Friday.

He completed two rounds in 148 to win by five shots from James Cooper (153), while Kieran Sorrell (157) finished third.
