Halstead and District Motorcycle Club motocross star Lewis Tombs took points in both of his races on his Jar Honda machine in round three of the European MX2 Championships, held at Matterley Basin, Winchester.

In race one, a lowly 17th place yielded four points before he recovered to finish 14th in race two (seven points) for 14th overall on the day.

In the series standings after three (of eight) rounds, Tombs is into the 20s.

Halstead Club’s GH Motorcycles evening meeting on June 18 sees practice under way at 5.30pm followed by the first race at 6pm, racing to be finished by 9pm. Admission is £5, with programmes £1.

Racing will be short and sharp four-lap heats, with the semi-finals over eight laps and the main final over 10 laps.

A large number of entries have been received which should indicate fast and furious action from expert and junior riders.

The usual refreshments will be available throughout the evening.

Halstead teenager Keiran Doherty is taking his first steps to become an Eastern Centre MX steward and has been appointed a probationary steward at Woodbridge Club’s meeting in July.
