It was third time lucky for Sudbury Boxing Club super heavyweight Mike Miller at the Talk Nightclub in Norwich.

Having lost the two previous encounters against Dan Brown of Kingfisher, Great Yarmouth, it all came together for Miller this time and he was awarded a unanimous verdict.

Standing six foot eight inches tall, Miller was a full six inches taller than his opponent and made use of his longer reach.

The Sudbury man set to work on the 130kg man-mountain, boxing extremely intelligently and not allowing the powerhouse to set his feet and unload his big punches.

In the third, Miller upped his pace and landed some telling combinations to make sure of the result.

Also in action was light welterweight Joe Attridge. The 16-year-old put in an excellent performance against the taller and more experienced Evan Norman of the host club and was unlucky to lose a majority verdict.

Attridge made an excellent start, controlling the centre and slipping inside Norman’s long-range jabs to land body and head counters. His head movement was excellent and in the first two rounds Norman’s extra height and reach were no advantage.

In the third, Norman made a spirited effort but Attridge was equal to the task and was shocked when the judges awarded Norman a majority verdict, with the scores 9-9 and 11-10 to Norman and 14-9 to Attridge.

There will be a rematch at the Sudbury show on April 13.

n Four Sudbury boxers should be in action in Attleborough on March 23.
