Snow twice forced Chris Williams to abandon his captain’s drive-in at Newton Green Golf Club last year.
But there was not a flake to be seen as blazing sun welcomed Andrew Johnson as he drove more than 190 yards down the first fairway to start his season as captain.
Before the drive-in, Williams — watched by the incoming captain — putted out on the 18th green to conclude his season.
More than 80 players then took part in a Stableford competition in which Bob Talbot won with 40 points on count-back from Zennan Szpurko and Tom King. They were followed by Paddy Lockwood (39) and David Holmes (38 on countback).
In the scratch division, Russell Oakey scored a level-par 69, followed by juniors Jed Seeley, who took second place on countback from Tom King, both with 73.
King left the clubhouse looking for a rainy day, having picked up an armfull of umbrella prizes, as he also won both closest to the pin contests, and a similar prize in the raffle.
