SUDBURY Rugby Club will be gunning for revenge when they travel to face Stowmarket in a Suffolk derby on Saturday (3pm), writes Russell Claydon.
With Stowmarket using the fixture to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Scott Harries and Lee Cooper’s side will be hoping to be the party poopers after their opponents knocked them out of the Suffolk Cup last season.
With two leagues separating them back in March, Stowmarket shocked Sudbury by dumping them out in the first round of the competition before they went on to toast promotion while their rivals sunk to relegation.
Joint-coach Cooper, who played in Saturday’s rather fortuitous 15-13 home win over Wanstead, to kick off their campaign in London League Three North East, said: “We have a bit of a grudge match this Saturday against Stowmarket who knocked us out of the Suffolk Cup.
“I was not about but from what I have heard we dominated the first half and thought we had won it and they came back us and we’ll be looking to put that right.”
Cooper himself will make way for the returning Dan Taylor in the second row as they look to build on last week’s points at Chilton Fields.
