A FORMER amateur boxer who is being supported by a Suffolk-based company has made a winning start to his professional career last weekend.

CAS Clarks Archive Storage, who have a facility in Sudbury, have sponsored Mike Evans, from Brentwood, throughout an amateur career which saw the boxer win 16 of his 19 bouts and represent England.

And the 24-year-old super middleweight defeated Lithuanian Dimitrij Kalrnovskij after a stoppage in the fourth round at York Hall, Bethnal Green, to secure his first win at professional level.

“It was amazing. I couldn’t ask for a better professional debut,” he said. “My trainer said don’t go looking for a knockout or a stoppage, just keep it neat and tidy.

“I started as an amateur and had my first fight when I was 19, but my main goal was to always be a professional.

“Obviously I have a long way to go but I am excited for the journey.”

Danny Clark, managing director of CAS Clarks, added: “We have enjoyed watching Mike go from strength to strength and we couldn’t be prouder of him.”
