Sudbury Rugby Club’s Austin Beckett will be part of the Eastern Counties side aiming to seal their place at Twickenham as they prepare to face Berkshire in the semi-final of the RFU National Under-20s Championship at Cambridge on Sunday (2.15pm).

Counties topped their qualifying group, winning both matches, before beating defending champions Northumberland 17-12 in the quarter-final.

Manager David Masdin has named an unchanged starting line-up for Sunday’s semi-final which includes the Sudbury star.

The other semi-final sees Cornwall host Yorkshire for a place in the final on May 3.

Meanwhile, Beckett’s club coach Graham Richards has hailed the will of players to succeed after Sudbury maintained their unbeaten London Three North East record with a 34-28 success at third-placed Cantabrigian.

The victory means Sudbury are 13 points clear of West Norfolk at the top of the table and can clinch the title by winning their next match, at home to Beccles a week on Saturday (3pm).

“Under the circumstances I was very pleased with the performance and that is testament to the players,” said head coach Graham Richards. “This side just has that will to win and succeed.”
