Sudbury Hockey Club Under-16 Girls faced Norwich Dragons in their regional championship match and dominated from the start, winning 4-1.
Lottie Riley slotted home the first goal for Sudbury and, just before half time, Josie Partridge put the ball into the back of the net following a goalmouth scramble.
Sudbury were looking the stronger side in the second half and were rewarded with a goal from Riley.
A lapse in concentration led to a Norwich goal, but Sudbury swiftly returned as Riley secured her hat-trick for a deserved 4-1 win to keep the finals in their sights.
n Sudbury Ladies II enjoyed a welcome 2-1 Suffolk Premier Division victory at IES on Saturday. They fell behind after five minutes, but the early setback ignited Sudbury.
Through some outstanding defending, Mishka Mayers and Jemima Erith were able to keep the Sudbury midfield and forwards supplied with plenty of opportunities.
Maddie Wagland worked tirelessly in the centre of the pitch supported by Livvy Holt, Josie Partridge and Freya Dawson on the wings. Dawson scored Sudbury’s first goal following a tough battle during a short corner.
Sudbury used the speed of the pitch to their advantage, keeping the game pace high. With team work and skill Sudbury penetrated the D, and Holt found the backboard to clinch a well-deserved win.
n Sudbury Men’s III made the trip to a wet and blustery Felixstowe in East League Division 5 North East, and were beaten 1-0 after starting a few men short.
Sudbury’s midfield and up front linked up well, which resulted in a few opportunities and defence worked tirelessly throughout. Felixstowe managed to convert a single opportunity into a game winning goal.
