Sudbury Motorcycle Club were well represented in the last round of the Edmondson Racing British Enduro Championship.

Conditions were perfect for the finale held in Thetford Forest — organised Diss Motorcycle Club — with the event aptly named the Muntjac Enduro 2014 and was sponsored jointly by G H Motorcycles and G & B Finch Aggregates.

There was a very large entry of nearly 200 riders, including some of the best in Britain, such as the 2014 British champion Tom Sagar, Danny McCanney and Steve Holcombe.

In the championship class, McCanney won with Holcombe second while Sagar had to settle for seventh place.

Locally, all eyes were on Sudbury members Chris Hockey — British 250cc Champion in 1999 and nine-times winner of the Eastern Centre Enduro Championship — and fellow club member Jamie Roper, the current Eastern Centre Enduro Champion.

They both rode their hearts out against strong opposition with Roper finishing 14th
and Hockey 15th, while in
their sub-class they were sixth and seventh respectively.

In the expert class, Stevie Roper finished 10th, Craig Roper 14th and Steve Mason, riding for the first time since his injury earlier in the year, finished 20th.

In their sub-classes, Craig Roper was third, while Stevie Roper and Mason were fourth and 10th respectively.

The clubman class saw Darren Nicolaou come 17th, Phil Roper 20th, Ben Ramus 28th, Jack Arnold 37th, Richard Walters 39th, Paul Belton 44th, Terry Hadwen 50th, Jim Funston 56th and Lewis Roper 60th.

In the sub-class, E1/2T Walters was fourth, Belton sixth and Roper seventh.

Ramus was eighth and Arnold eighth in the E1/4T sub-class. In their respective clubman E2 sub classes, Nicolaou was eighth and Hadwen third, while Phil Roper secured third place in the E3 sub class and Funston eighth.

In the clubman veteran class it was a storming ride by Sudbury chairman and co-sponsor of the event Gavin Hockey with a superb second place while Gareth Young was 14th, Mark Green 17th, Nigel Ross 18th, Jason Carboult 23rd and Dean Curry 24th.

Best Sudbury rider in the clubman super veteran class was current Eastern Centre Super Veteran Champion Andy Mason with fourth place while Paul Davis was sixth.

In the sportsman class Dean Southernwood was third, Martin Baker fifth, Peter Barltrop sixth, John Austin seventh, Paul Webb 11th, Philip Barltrop 12th and John Roach 14th.
