SUDBURY Ladies are ready to spring a tactical surprise when they host rivals Bury St Edmunds on the opening day of the hockey season on Saturday (12.45pm).

Captain Sandra Mackay has revealed the club have been working hard on new formations with their newly-appointed coach Mark Dudley, who will know all about their first opponents having come from coaching at Bury last season.

Following both club’s relegation to East Women’s Division One North last season, the pair will be keen to get off to a good start.

Mackay said: “I would like to go straight back up but we will look to consolidate with a view to getting promotion where possible as we have got a lot of new young players.”

Of Saturday’s derby at Great Cornard Sports Centre, she said: “We’ll be confident, we have a game plan and we will stick to it.”
