Sudbury’s Chris Lewis and Henry Cowling were among the try scorers as Eastern Counties beat Middlesex 34-12 in the RFU Under-20s Shield at Shelford, to clinch a place in the quarter-finals.
Other tries came from Aaron Forrest (Bury St Edmunds), Tui Uru (Ipswich) and Sam Easton (Colchester), while Rob Smith (Nottingham Uni) converted three and landed one penalty in the contest.
Counties are next in action, bidding for a semi-final place against Somerset, at Shelford on Sunday, April 2.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Counties Greene King League is set to undergo a reorganisation ahead of next season.
Following the RFU’s announcement that London Three North East, which the league feeds into, is being split into two leagues, the top six in Eastern Counties Greene King League Division One will all be promoted this season.
Hadleigh, Sudbury II (both Division Two South), Halstead and Sudbury III (both Division Three South) could potentially be involved in the shake up lower down the pyramid.
The Free Press understands the league’s officials were meeting this week to discuss how the league structure will work.
