Director of rugby Graham Richards will be looking for a 15th straight victory when unbeaten London 3NE leaders Sudbury take on Upminster at Whittome Field on Saturday (3pm).
Richards will select from a strong squad. Ethan Wright is available again, Chris Whybrow has returned to action, and the only slight doubt is over Scott Harries, who suffered a rib injury two weeks ago at Billericay.
Frazer Beckett is unavailable, and Tom Dufficy, after a handful of encouraging appearances, is now in New Zealand. Ben Stanton will come in at centre.
Sudbury will lose two players after next week’s game at Harlow. Stanton returns to university, and Toby White will be spending a gap year in New Zealand, playing club rugby.
Holders Sudbury are away to Harwich and Dovercourt in the semi-final of the Suffolk Cup on February 14. The Eastern Counties League Division 2S side beat London 3NE strugglers Clacton 17-10 on Saturday.
“The Cup is a low priority,” said Richards. “We will judge what sort of team to field when it comes round. The only thing I’m thinking about is Saturday. We have a few more league games before the cup tie.”
n Former Sudbury players Austin Beckett (Cambridge) and Ben Murphy (Colchester) were in the Eastern Counties team which topped their group in the RFU National Under-20s Championship, beating North Midlands 40-31 at Shelford on Sunday and earning a home quarter-final against Northumberland on February 15. Both scored first-half tries.
