STOKE-BY-NAYLAND won their last match in the league to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Harris Bowl competition – an Essex County Competition.
The team knew they needed to win this last match against Belfairs, at home, to progress further.
Despite the pressure, the team rose to the occasion and won 4-1.
Although three of the matches were tight at the halfway stage, Catriona Chaplin won 4&3 and Maria Gilgar secured a resounding 8&6 victory.
Lady captain Carol Mehrer secured the win when she finished 2&1. Anne Hemmings also won 6&4.
The team now waits to hear who they will play as the competition reaches the knockout stages.
The quarter-finals will be on September 7 on a neutral course.

n On Thursday, August 16, the ladies’ section held a stableford competition for the Grandmother’s Trophy.
The winner of the Trophy was Mary Allston with 40 points.
Second place went to Mal Went, third Pamela Randle and fourth Carol Mehrer.
The best front nine was won by Fiz Grunday and the best back nine by Susan Swan.
