The 12-year-old Ormiston Sudbury Academy pupil is gearing up for an assault on the national play-offs after her Bury St Edmunds-based team became the first Suffolk side to win the National League East Conference Under-14 Girls title in 12 years.

Spooner is one of the youngest members of the side but finished County Upper’s crunch winner-takes-all match with Brentwood Fire on Sunday as the second highest points scorer on the day with 18.

She will be looking to repeat her fine form in the national play-offs when they will again host Brentwood.

Spooner has been playing for County Upper since the age of 10, training twice a week in Bury. She has also represented Suffolk and was selected to play for the East of England in the 2015 MBE Nationals, playing at point guard.

She has also played up an age group for a few games in County Upper’s Under-16 Girls National League team.

She is also training for the Suffolk side in preparation for the 2017 Suffolk and East Games later this year.
