The Saracens claimed their first Industrial Electrical Services Sudbury and District Bar Billiards League title with two matches remaining.

They travelled to Edwardstone to take on Mill Green Pirates and were soon aware they would not be having things all their own way.

The hosts started brightly, winning both doubles, before the visitors knuckled down with Ian Furlonger and
Nick Cheshire making it all square.

The pressure was put back on the Saracens as Andy Garvin won 1390-1130 to regain the lead.

The champions-elect responded with Dick Cheshire top-scoring with 1700 before captain Ken Drake wrapped up an exciting 4-3 victory.

The only team that could realistically stop The Saracens winning the title were Bay Horse A, but they lost 5-2 at Hadleigh Eight Bells.

With the match locked at 2-2, David Stiff, John Raine and Graham Rolfe finished them off.

Singles wins by Doedy Munson, Marge Rose, Melvyn Willis and Paul Rose helped Edwardstone Wild Horse overcome Memphis Belles.

A big win was achieved by Bay Horse B over The Thatchers Arms, courtesy of singles wins from Chris Day, Chris Drake, Tom Arbon, Alice Kendall and Terry Parsons.

Dennis Watts won the decider as Mauldon Adders edged out Brewery Tap.

The East Anglian Four Pin Open will be played at The Grover and Allen in North Street, on Saturday, starting at 10.30am.

Spectators are welcome.
