Road Runners produce a good showing in Spitfire Scramble

Halstead Road Runners fielded two teams in the Spitfire Scamble 24 hour off-road endurance race at the weekend.

Completed over an undulating 10km course, the 16 Road Runners each managed an average of 24 miles to make a total distance for each team of an astonishing 192 miles over the 24 hour period.

Team Jim, which consisted of Jim Clark, Kathryn Bronson, Lee Cullen, Nicole Smith, Andy Owen, Jon Buist, Hazel Buist and Steve May finished sixth overall.

While Nathan Roulson, Dan Hollinshead, Rosie Atkins, Karl Hillman, Allistair Godfrey, Bob Langley, Sam Wolton and Jenn Langley of Team Nathan claimed ninth place.

Elsewhere, Halstead’s Jim Leaney took part in the Dirty Dozen Destroyer 18km assault course race on Saturday, and finished in just over three hours.

Andy Wilmot and Dan Smith both completed the Lelia’s Run Marathon, with Wilmot finishing in four hours and 23 minutes and Smith crossing the line in 4.58.
