Sudbury Rugby Club coach Graham Richards is looking to strengthen the pack for next season.
Sudbury flirted with relegation for much of last season, and Richards feels more power up front will prevent a similar season of worry.
But he was full of praise for the club’s young players, who have endured a difficult season.
“I take my hat off to them for their efforts. But we need to shore up the scrum for next season and make sure we are not in the same predicament next April.
“Probably half the tries we have conceded this season have come from five metres out,” he said. Cantabrigians, who beat Sudbury 22-21 on Saturday, scored just one try, a pushover from close range.
Sudbury came within a whisker of ending Cantabrigians unbeaten home run, which goes back to October 2010, on Saturday, in a performance which Richards described as ‘perhaps our best game of the season’.
Richards, with Paul Williams, is putting together a summer training programme, which will include boxing to improve fitness levels.
