THERE was a bumper turnout for Sudbury Hockey Club’s first ever ladies open day.

A mixture of 47 new, old and current players attended the event on Saturday, which was designed to encourage women back to the sport and strengthen the ladies section.

For once the weather did its part by staying cool and dry as the tournament ran throughout the day, the event finishing with a barbecue.

There were also goodie bags for every player who took part, thanks to the England Hockey Board’s Hockey Nation initiative.

Sudbury Hockey Club’s ladies training sessions are open to over-13s and are held on Thursday evenings, 7-9pm, at Great Cornard Sports Centre.
