Sudbury Ladies 3

Folkestone Ladies 2

Sudbury Ladies finally got the three points they wanted and deserved, on home soil against Folkestone.

Although they went a goal down early in the game, the Sudbury spirit meant that heads remained high.

The home side went up a gear and attacked with more grit and determination, which soon led to an equaliser from Chloe Hunnable.

Becky Spencer then ran into the opposition’s D and won a short corner, with Hunnable making no mistake to fire the ball into the left corner to put Sudbury 2-1 up.

Folkestone grabbed an equaliser just before half-time.

However, Sudbury regained their advantage when they scored what proved to be the winning goal.

A great ball from Becky Younger found Hunnable near the 25, and she passed to Olivia Greaves in front of goal.

She confidently slipped the ball straight through the goalkeeper’s legs into the net.

n Sudbury Ladies II continued their recent good form in the Suffolk Ladies League Premier Division with a goalless draw against their Felixstowe counterparts.

Tracey Caddock was particularly impressive for Sudbury, who worked well in attack during an improved second-half performance.

n In Division One, Sudbury Ladies III kept up their winning run with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich-East Suffolk (IES) Ladies III.

n Elsewhere, Sudbury Men’s IV slipped to their first defeat in four games after losing 6-2 at IES VI.

Good runs by Chris Ashby and solid defending from Robin Mitchell saw Sudbury start strongly and take the lead.

But I-ES fought back, with the second half seeing multiple short corners converted.
