Newton Green golfers have begun the season on the same winning note as they finished last year.
Club professional Tim Cooper produced an impressive one-under-par 67 to earn victory in the Suffolk Professional Golfers’ Association opening medal competition of the season at Aldeburgh.
His round included four birdies, and he won by one shot from Lawrence Dodd (Bury Golf Range).
Meanwhile, two of the juniors Cooper has coached — Alice Barlow and Ellie Aldous — have opened their campaign with victories.
They took part in the traditional Suffolk Ladies’ team pre-season foursomes friendly against the men of Woodbridge, and were the only winners, beating their opponents 4up.
Both youngsters have continued their training during the winter in the England Girls’ squad coaching programme, having become the youngest ever winners of the prestigious Suffolk Haskell Trophy last season.
