Natasha on course for summer

GREAT Cornard Upper School pupil Natasha Wright saw off stiff competition to take first place in the under-14 girls section of the Eastern Region Snowsports Association Ski Schools Championship.

More than 250 racers from teams across Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and north London took part in this new event at Welwyn Garden City.

In the team event Wright was joined by schoolmates Kate Edwards and Daryl Cuthbert. They fought hard and came third overall in their age group, an excellent result, especially considering it was the first time they had raced together.

But it was in the individual event where Wright, a member of the Ipswich-based Suffolk Vikings Ski Race Team, excelled.

Up against many older racers she put in very strong times and came first in the under-14s age group and second fastest overall on the day, missing out by a very narrow 0.08 seconds.

The result means she can now look forward to the summer race season with confidence.

Wright trains each week at the Suffolk Vikings Ski Team in Ipswich and if anyone would like to know more about joining they can contact the team at info@suffolkvikings.org.uk
