Holders Sudbury will send a mixed side to Harwich and Dovercourt for the Chadacre Suffolk Cup semi-final on Saturday (2.15pm), with director of rugby Graham Richards not risking his key forwards as the club chases promotion from London 3NE.

“We need to give some of the players, who have been playing mainly in the Second team, a high profile game, as we will need to call on them in the next few weeks,” he said.

Sudbury’s squad has shrunk in recent weeks, the club losing a number of players to university and gap year travelling, so with promotion the priority Richards aims to protect key players.Sudbury’s 100 per cent league record went last weekend with the 10-10 draw at Harlow, but Richards was pleased with the two points from the anticipated tough game.

Injuries meant Harlow coach Lee Harron had to turn out. “He controlled the game for them,” said Richards.

“But we need to be more clinical against better teams.”
