Halstead and District Motor Cycle Club rider Lewis Tombs kickstarted his Maxxis MX2 Championship season with 12th place overall in the first round, held at the FatCat Motoparc near Doncaster.
He finished 15th in his first race and improved on this with an 11th place in the second.
Tombs will have a much shorter journey for the second round, which takes place at Norwich Vikings’ course in Lyng, Norfolk, this Sunday.
A host of Halstead club riders raced in the second round of the East Anglian Schoolboy Scrambling Club in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.
In the AMX open class, Charlie Heatley, Glen Bixby, Dean Birkumshaw, Brendon Mayers from Edwardstone and Frazer Pritlove were all in the top places in the race results.
Making a return to motocross was Mark Mitchell of Hadleigh, who came first overall in the AMX vets class and there was also a top 10 finish for Hadleigh’s Chris Keeble.
n Halstead’s first motocross of the season will be on April 21 at Little Loveney Hall, Wakes Colne.
The practice day scheduled for Good Friday had to be cancelled due to the wet weather, with the track waterlogged in places.
