Halstead Road Runner (HRR) Maurice Young has been crowned the world age group duathlon champion in the 75 to 79 years category.

Senior club member Young competed in the World Duathlon Sprint Championships in Ottawa, Canada, and won his race by around 40 seconds.

He recorded an overall time of one hour 35 minutes and 34 seconds in this run, bike and run event.

All at Halstead Road Runners pass on their congratulations to Young on his achievement.

Closer to home, among 350 starters, three HRR triathletes took part and completed the Monster Middle Ironman 70.3 at Ely on Sunday.

It was the first time for all at this distance and great times were posted, despite the very windy conditions.

The race started with a 1.2-mile swim in the River Ouse followed by 56-mile bike route and a half marathon around the streets of Ely.

In a very close finish, Rob Thacker managed to hold off the challenge of Don English, finishing in 5.20.03(148th) and 5.20.36(149th), but English did manage first place in his age group.

Paul Harrington (Del) was very happy to beat his predicted time and stop the clock in 6.07.44 (248th).
