Boxford Bowls Club’s Malcolm Grimwood was crowned national veterans’ singles champion at the English Bowling Federation National Finals in Skegness.
Grimwood — the secretary at Boxford who was also representing North Essex — which consists of 13 clubs across the Suffolk and Essex border, beat John Bown of Derbyshire 21-13 in the final.
He had seen off players from Northumberland, Northamptonshire and Suffolk en route to the title decider.
North Essex County Bowls Federation’ members were well represented in the latter stages of the competitions and were in four finals, winning two of them. The other winner from North Essex was Marcus Fuller, of Castle Camps Bowls Club, in the under 25’s singles.
