SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Alphonsine Agahozo saw her Olympic dream end in the heats of the women’s 50m freestyle this morning (Friday).
Rwanda’s first female competitor took the pool in the Aquatic Centre in heat three, finishing her sprint in a time of 30.72secs, 0.71 seconds better than her qualifying time, and taking third position from the field of eight.
But it wasn’t enough to earn her a semi-final place as one of the 16 quickest swims as successive heats four to 10 saw all but two swimmers go faster than her time. Rwanda based themselves in Bury St Edmunds prior to the Games.
Brit Francesca Halsall did make it through to tonight’s semi-final with a time of 24.61secs.
