LAVENHAM Royal British Legion B are Division Two champions of the Sudbury and District League.

They rounded off their season with a 4–1 home win over closest challengers Sudbury Snooker Club A.

This completed 20 wins out of 20 for the Legion, who finished 32 points clear of their nearest rivals.

There was also a personal milestone for the Legion’s Mike Hazell, who won all of his 33 frames.

He was given a real scare, however, in the final frame of the evening by the Snooker Club’s Rob Sanders who, having knocked in a 32-break earlier in the frame, found himself needing the final four colours to win. He then proceeded to pot brown, blue and pink before mishitting an attempted safety shot on the black, leaving his relieved opponent right over the middle pocket.

Sanders had earlier won the sole frame for the Snooker Club.

Long Melford RBL B finished at the bottom of the table following their latest defeat at the hands of their neighbours Long Melford RBL A. There were three black ball frames in this match, all of which went the way of the A side, courtesy of Colin Springall, Ron Noakes and Ray Fradley, who had also won his earlier frame of the night.

For the second successive week, George Hazell was the B side’s only winner.

The other match in the division finished in a 3-2 win for Sible Hedingham over Sudbury Snooker Club B.

Division One saw an end to the winning run of Lavenham RBL A who were beaten at Long Melford Working Men’s Club A.

It looked good for the Legion early on as John Goodchild knocked in a 25 in his impressive win over Steve Fradley.

However, the Working Men’s responded to that early setback by comfortably winning the next three frames and therefore the match. Shaun Faiers won the final frame for the Legion.
