Buoyed by last week’s success, a confident Sudbury held Canterbury to a scoreless draw for a share of the points in this East Women’s Hockey League Division 1S match.
The water based pitch was slightly different from the sand based one Sudbury are used to but they passed the ball around with ease.
They had some brilliant attacks up the right hand side with Daisy Palmer, Casey Humphreys, Alice King and Abbi Taylor all looking strong and supporting each other well. This showed considerably as Sudbury were in the Canterbury 25 for most of the first half.
The second half continued with some good running from Gemma Jones and Kirsty Sloan both helping the ball through to Collette Cottrell who held the ball up well whilst the midfield caught up.
Due to illness, Sudbury travelled with only one substitute and it was during the second half that Canterbury started to use this to their advantage but some great defending from Palmer, Mandy Coleman, Katie Clark, Tracey Caddock and captain Ami Humphreys fought off a couple of the Canterbury attacks.
With five minutes to go Canterbury won a succession of short corners which player of the match Lizzie Anderson kept out, with Coleman and Clark helping to clear the line.
