Halstead and District Motorcycle Club motocross riders were in the results in the solo supporting races at the weekend when Diss Motorcycle Club staged the British Sidecar Clubmans Championship, plus round two of the NGR Championships, held at Wattisfield Hall.

John Hinz took third overall on the day in the NGR Championships solo group A.

Making a brilliant comeback for Halstead, was Mark Gardiner who took fifth overall — Gardiner has been out of motocross for a while.

Brad Tomlin and Jason Morland battled it out in the experts class. Just getting the nod over his rival was Tomlin by one point with Halstead’s Phil Burton in sixth place.

In the super final, the on-form Tomlin again had the edge over Morland to take the win. Brendon Mayers with fourth and Hinz sixth.

Taking part in the Mortimer Classic Scramble held in Reading, was former Halstead club’s side-car driver, Shaun Mallows, with Colin Dunkley in the chair, riding in the Twin-Shock Pre 85 Sidecar Championship Four Stroke.

The pair only lasted one lap in the first race, and finished in second place in race two despite a smoking outfit, but did not make the start line for the third race.

It is just a matter of weeks before Halstead DMC stages its second motocross meeting of the season, with round one of the Evening MXs on Friday, June 19, at Wakes Colne.

GH/MC’s G&B Finch sponsor the meeting.
