Halstead runners impress in events

Halstead Road Runner and multi-sport ace Rob Thacker completed the Braintree Triathlon in a respectable 17th position.

In this swim, bike and run event, Thacker was first out the pool, but could not maintain his lead as he clocked a final time of one hour and 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, marathon specialist Andy Wilmot completed two marathons in as many days at Barrow near Bury St Edmunds, completing both multi-terrain courses in almost identical times of 4.43.

Wilmot also competed alongside Dan Smith at the Kent Road Runners Marathon.

Competing over the 17-lap course in cool conditions Wilmot finished in a respectable time of just over four hours, closely followed by Smith in 4.58.

Elsewhere, Gavin Allen competed in the Southend Half Marathon.

In a field of more than 2,000 athletes, Allen stormed the course with an amazing run to finish in third position in a time of 74.08, smashing his previous personal best.
