HALSTEAD Road Runner Jeremy Gore completed the Serpentine Running Club last Friday of the month 5k in Hyde Park and recorded a time of 23minutes six seconds.
Elsewhere, the second cross country in the 53-12 sponsored league took place in Hylands Park, Chelmsford. The race was organised by Springfield Striders and Halstead Juniors did not fail to impress, with a team of 18 athletes taking part.
For the first time since entering the league, the first five Halstead runners finished in the top 10, giving a fantastic team score.
The ever consistent Luke Allen crossed the line in second place overall, closely followed by club mates Emma Lovegrove in fourth, Henry Trevanion in seventh, Tom Baslington eighth and one of the youngest and gutsiest athletes competing, Freddie Trevanion, in ninth.
Other noteworthy performances came from the ever-improving Hayden Challis, and Samuel Jones, who has recently returned to the club.
There were fantastic debut appearances by Wesley Anson and Kathryn Lawrence who, unfortunately, had a nasty fall in the wooded part of the course.
Halstead coach Peri Collins said: “Whilst standing at the finish line I was rendered nearly speechless when a sea of yellow shirts descended upon me.
“It was a very heart-warming moment and reminded me what an amazingly determined and talented bunch of kids come from Halstead and the surrounding area.
“The effort that these young people put into their training has certainly started to pay off.”
