SUDBURY Gymnastics Club will be represented in the regional gymnastics finals after five of their eight competitors came home with medals from the Suffolk Championships held in Ipswich.
The county levels seven, six and five gymnasts were the first to compete on September 15 and really set the bar high.
In the level five aged 11-and-under category, Ebony Tait was extremely happy to bring home a silver medal, while team-mate Evie Stokes-Shinn sufficiently surprised herself by earning the title of Suffolk champion for the level six aged eight, nine and 10 category.
In the level seven nine-and-under age group, Helena Read-Luxton also competed at her best to become Suffolk champion in this category while team-mate Hollie Hayward narrowly missed out in fourth place.
Kirsty Dinnell was competing in a very tough age group at her first ever level seven competition and despite not medalling in the age six and seven category, she held her head up high and came out with a very respectable score.
That afternoon, three more gymnasts competed alongside the inspirational British squad members in levels four, three and two competitions, all aiming for a spot in the regional finals.
In her first ever level four competition, Louisa Pettican still managed to achieve a bronze medal, despite having a fall off bars and a somewhat wobbly beam.
She therefore qualified through to the regional finals and is looking forward to a second attempt in the hope she will have a clean competition and show her skills at their very best.
Her team-mate Becky Lawrence (also competing in her first level four) was going very well until she made two uncharacteristic errors on beam resulting in two falls and some large deductions.
Despite this, she still achieved a respectable score of 41.05, only three marks away from gold, proving that competition at this level is very tight.
To round the competition up with another regional finalist, Leah Wallings competed in the aged 13-and-over category of level three and brought home another silver medal, taking the total for the day to five medals and two trophies.
