Halstead Road Runners Keith Thorogood, Rosie Atkins, Dan Smith and Andy Wilmot tackled the Fairlands Valley Challenge in sweltering conditions on Sunday in Stevenage.

The 26.2-mile tough trial marathon was Atkins’ first marathon, having only
taken up running in April this year.

The quartet completed the course in a very respectable time of five hours 53 minutes 57 seconds.

Sara Hill (42.33), Rich Burnham (31.38), Hazel Buist (33.01, fifth female) and Jon Buist (30.26) completed the Mucky Races Muddy 5k race — a mud and obstacle course.

To round up a busy week, Val Kerrison took to the capital to compete in London’s Five Mile Queen Elizabeth Park Run, finishing in 51.31
