PRESENTATIONS were made to the winners of the men’s and mixed competitions held during the year at the annual meeting of Newton Green Golf Club.

Members heard the club had reached the semi-finals of the Suffolk Stenson Shield for the first time, and a number of girl and boy juniors were making fast progress in the game.

Efforts by the club to bring more women into the sport, and increase the number of young people between the ages of 18-35 years, had proved positive, and membership stood at its most healthy state for several years.

Further capital investment was planned in the coming months.

During the evening retiring captain Alan Cunningham presented a cheque for £1,439 to John Dyer of Cancer Research UK, bringing the total recently raised by the club for charitable groups to more than £4,000.
