DIVISION TWO NORTH

Sudbury 5

Norwich City II 1

Will Chrystal scored four goals to help Sudbury beat Norwich City II 5-1 to stay at the top of the Division Two North table on Saturday.

The match started with a dominant push from Norwich, who had beaten previous leaders Shefford and Sandy earlier in the season.

Sudbury quickly retaliated with a good run of play leading to a short corner, which captain Adam Bullock converted with a drag flick to send the hosts 1-0 up.

After the goal Sudbury retained possession well and put a lot of pressure on the Norwich defence, with it paying off when Brendon Mayers forced in a second goal to double their lead.

Chrystal finished off the first-half with a superb strike to send the Suffolk hosts into half-time 3-0 in front.

Norwich started the second-half strongly for the first 10 minutes, and after putting the Sudbury defence under extreme pressure, pulled a goal back from a short corner.

However Sudbury’s superior fitness showed during the end of the second-half, as Norwich’s defence started to crumble and Chrystal took advantage to score two more and complete a 5-1 win.

n In Division Three North East, Sudbury II were comfortably beaten 7-2 at home by Pelicans II at the weekend.

The visitors made an aggressive start and took the lead within the first few minutes, before Sudbury struck back through Leigh Bevan.

A lack of communication in the Sudbury defence resulted in players being unmarked, which led to the Pelicans striking again, and they scored three more goals before the first-half finished.

Sudbury fought back as Jez Price Hall pulled a goal back, but it was not enough to prevent a 7-2 defeat.

n A hat-trick from Alastair Ward helped Sudbury IV see off Watton II 5-3 in Division Seven North East.

Sudbury were pegged back three times before Watton received a green card for a deliberate foul, which was then upgraded to a yellow card by the umpire for dissent.

The hosts made the advantage count with two answered goals to seal a 5-3 win, in which Angus Marlow and Bill Wickham also found the target.

n In East Women’s League Division Two C, goals from Becky Spencer, Chloe Hunnable (two) and Maddie Wagland helped Sudbury secure a 4-2 victory over Hertford.

After Hertford took an early lead, Spencer, Hunnable and Wagland put Sudbury 3-2 up, before Hunnable netted again to complete the win.
