Sudbury Amateur Boxing Club fighters Jasper Boydell and Jack Wiffen warmed up for their home event on Saturday by competing in Peterborough Police ABC show.
Wiffen, 13, always had his work cut out against in his under-40kg contest with Birmigham City’s Louai Ali, who had only previously suffered one defeat in 10 bouts.
From the first bell Ali showed his intent by taking centre and pushing the Sudbury boxer back with strong attacks, and despite a rally from Wiffen, he took the first round.
In the second Wiffen changed tactics and landed some nice clean shots, but Ali still pressed forward and just shaded the round.
Wiffen found more rhythm in the third, landing some quality shots to take the third but lose on a points decision.
Boydell, 17, returned from injury to take on home fighter Ashley Linnet in an under-63kg contest.
He started a bit slower than the aggressive southpaw Linnet, but as the round drew to a close Boydell had started to find his range.
In the second round Boydell boxed neatly, picking nice scoring punches off the backfoot and at the close dropped Linnett with a solid back hand.
He continued the good work in the third to take a points victory.
Both boxers will be in action on the Sudbury ABC home show on Saturday at Sudbury Rugby Club with boxing due to start at 5.30pm.
